The UK Government has recently announced an expansion of this year’s flu vaccination programme to cover those aged 50-64. The aim is to reduce pressure on the NHS this winter by preventing flu sickness that can cause hospitalisation or worse.
However, please note that people in this age group will not be vaccinated until November or December, provided sufficient vaccine is available. This is to ensure that those most at risk are vaccinated first.
The only exception to this rule applies if you are aged 50-64 and are in one of the other groups which is eligible for flu vaccination, eg if you have a pre-existing health condition that puts you at risk from flu.
Your surgery will contact you to invite you to receive your free flu vaccine according to these priorities.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
